WEEK OF ACTION DAY 1 >>
A full week of action of speaking out for animals inside labs and Huntingdon has been planned in Salt Lake - and today was day one. The American Assocation for Laboratory Animal Science convened their conference today and Huntingdon Life Sciences is a silver sponsor this year - this conference has blood on their hands.
In the morning around a dozen showed up at the AALAS conference at 8 in the morning to name and shame Huntingdon Life Sciences to all the prospective customers and suppliers. Fliers were distributed to several conference attendees and countless conference attendees heard the message as they were walking in that HLS is a sinking ship and it's in their company's best interests to stay the fuck away from Huntingdon.
Two businessmen from a supplier of labs had a frank conversation with one of the activists for a minute and said that much of the animal research industry tries to stay away from Huntingdon because they know they'll be found out. He asked that we not post his company's name but said they had a large presence at this conference. We also heard that fliers were posted inside the Marriot and Hilton hotels; the hotels that are housing these animal abusing scum.
Conference goers and officials occasionally confronted animal activists but apparently they're a bit camera shy when activists pointed cameras at them!
::Home Demos::
The executives of Huntsman Corp., a local and well-known chemical manufacturer in Salt Lake, were the first targets of home demonstrations this week. None other than Richard Michaelson, CFO of Huntingdon Life Sciences, sits on their board of directors. First we went to the home of Samuel Scruggs, Executive VP of Huntsman. He wasn't home, but about twenty angry activists congregated outside of his home anyways with banners and signs showing all of his neighbors that he's financially involved with vivisection. People in the neighborhood came out to talk with us while we chanted and took fliers about Huntingdon, Huntsman Corp., and Michaelson. The residents of Herbert Ave. can be assured that we will return to their neighborhood time and time again, until we are sure that Richard Michaelson has been permanently kicked off of Huntsman's board of directors. And that day WILL come.
Our next visit was at the posh neighborhood of Mr. Kimo Esplin, CFO and Executive VP of Huntsman Corp. Just as about 15 people arrived in his driveway holding signs and banners, Kimo's housesitters arrived to let us know that he was vacationing in France for a full week. We marked our calendars to return in 7 days. But they took literature about Michaelson, a DVD of undercover footage as well as HLS fliers and promised to pass them on to the owner. But we couldn't come all that way without having some fun. So the group spend the next fifteen minutes or so yelling until neighbors came wandering out of their houses. Info about Kimo and Huntingdon was left at every address on their street.
